Purpose
As you may know, when we read scripture God will reveal something new to us as we are prepared to hear it. I have since my own salvation written some of these Words down on various scraps of paper scattered throughout my home.
I though it would be nice to include different things God reveals to me during my readings here.
Should any of you wish to send me Words that God is teaching you through scripture, I will be happy to include a reader submission section on this page.
Please keep in mind that anything included on this page are things God through His Word is teaching me. They do not necessary apply to you or have meaning to the world in general.
God's Words to me through His Book
Revelation 3:7-13
7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
I was struck when reading this letter to the churches. I have been going over the various letters and I will probably post more on those as I go over them again. However, I felt the needs to dive into this particular letter and record my thoughts on it.
There are many, myself included, who believe the letters to the churches were letters to that particular church, but they are also letters to us, gauging the state of our walk and also an outline of the different states of the churches throughout history.
I was struck as I read this, that this is a very clear picture of a popular them in the church in recent history and present today.
Jesus starts out talking about who He is: He who is holy, He who is true, He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens...
I’m not going to go into this verse by verse simply because that is not my goal here, since this is really where I make note of passages that seemed to “speak” to me.
What I’m going to focus on would the Synagogue of Satan aspect.
I noticed first that within the description of Himself, he talks about having the key of David. This is obviously a reference to the passage in Isaiah 22:22 The key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder;
Then within the body of the letter He talks about the “synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.”
I have always wondered about this passage, who would say they are Jews but they really aren’t. There has been speculation that it is talking about the Jewish people who have not accepted Christ and therefore their unbelief makes them a part of the synagogue of Satan.
Today, I have to say that is not what I’m seeing here. These are letters to the churches, not to the Jewish people.
It struck me that those who believe in replacement theology, would qualify. They believe they have taken the place of the Jewish people in the heart of God. They are the “new Jews” so to speak. They say that God is done with the Jewish people. This is why Jesus is stressing that He has the key of David, and He will make them worship at the feet of the Jewish people and that indeed He does love them and they have not been abandoned, indeed that they are loved.
